The peptide was described in the 1970s as a component of thymic extracts, and early research focused on restoring immune function in immunodeficiency states. A synthetic version entered clinical development in the 1980s and is approved as a drug in several countries for conditions such as chronic hepatitis B and certain immunodeficiencies. Approval status varies widely by jurisdiction, and in the United States it is not an approved therapeutic. Regulatory and clinical positions differ, so statements about efficacy should be tied to specific indications and studies.
Thymosin alpha-1 is a synthetic peptide of 28 amino acids, corresponding to the N-terminal fragment of prothymosin alpha. Its sequence begins with acetylation at the N-terminus, a modification that affects stability and receptor interaction. The peptide is acidic, with a calculated isoelectric point near 4.2, and carries no disulfide bonds, so its secondary structure is largely flexible in solution. Molecular mass is approximately 3108 daltons. The native form was first isolated from bovine thymus tissue, while pharmaceutical material is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis.
The lyophilized peptide is generally stable for extended periods when kept cold and dry. Once dissolved, aqueous solutions are less stable; hydrolysis, oxidation, and aggregation can degrade the material. Storage at -20 °C or lower slows these processes. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are best avoided because they can promote aggregation. The exact shelf life depends on formulation, pH, and concentration, so stability studies are typically performed for each specific product.
Quality control for thymosin alpha-1 focuses on identity, purity, and potency. Identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry and amino acid analysis, while purity is assessed by chromatography with limits on related substances and residual solvents. Potency assays may use cell-based immune readouts, but these are not standardized across laboratories. Regulatory status differs by jurisdiction; no product is approved in the United States for clinical use, whereas some other countries register injectable forms for specific indications.

== Pathology == VIP is overproduced in VIPoma. In addition to VIPoma, VIP has a role in osteoarthritis (OA). While there is existing conflict in whether down-regulation or up-regulation of VIP contributes to OA, VIP has been shown to prevent cartilage damage in animals.
=== Grey market use === Suvomipic has attracted an unusual amount of attention for an investigational drug, such as in the r/Tressless subreddit about hair loss on Reddit. A large group of r/Tressless members, having believed that JXL069 is suvomipic, are known to have sourced JXL069 from China in 2025 in an effort to treat their hair loss. This included sending a sample to an analytical testing lab to confirm the compound's authenticity. Pelage Pharmaceuticals says that it does not endorse such use and has explicitly stated that suvomipic is not JXL069. Suvomipic is also said to not be JXL082. In July 2026, the INNTooltip International Nonproprietary Name of suvomipic was published and revealed that suvomipic is in fact JXL069.
In 2025, Willis underwent keyhole heart surgery after medical investigations revealed that she had a congenital hole in her heart which she had been unaware of for 48 years. The condition was discovered following routine checks and further investigation after an MRI scan identified an enlargement in her heart. Willis underwent the procedure at the Royal Brompton Hospital and later publicly thanked the medical staff who treated her.
== Early life == Ali Larter was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey to Margaret Walker, a realtor, and Danforth Larter, a trucking executive. She attended Carusi Middle School and went to Cherry Hill High School West, but she did not finish her senior year of high school due to being too busy modeling. Her mother accompanied her everywhere until she turned 18. Her parents have since moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania. Larter said she was a tomboy until she turned 13.

These preferences may be learned (e.g., with inverse reinforcement learning), or the agent can seek information to improve them. Information value theory can be used to weigh the value of exploratory or experimental actions. The space of possible future actions and situations is typically intractably large, so the agents must take actions and evaluate situations while being uncertain of the outcome. A Markov decision process has a transition model that describes the probability that a particular action will change the state in a particular way and a reward function that supplies the utility of each state and the cost of each action. A policy associates a decision with each possible state. The policy could be calculated (e.g., by policy iteration), determined by a heuristic, or learned. Game theory describes the rational behaviour of multiple interacting agents and is used in AI programs that make decisions involving other agents.
I am asking neither that Germany be allowed to oppress three and a half million Frenchmen, nor am I asking that three and a half million Englishmen be placed at our mercy. Rather I am simply demanding that the oppression of three and a half million Germans in Czechoslovakia cease and that the inalienable right to self-determination takes its place.

The compartmentalization afforded by the periplasmic space gives rise to several important functions. Aside from those previously mentioned, the periplasm also functions in protein transport and quality control, analogous to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes. Furthermore, the separation of the periplasm from the cytoplasm allows for the compartmentalization of enzymes that could be toxic in the cytoplasm. Some peptidoglycans and lipoproteins located in the periplasm provide a structural support system for the cell that aids in promoting the cell's ability to withstand turgor pressure. Notably, organelles such as the flagellum require the assembly of polymers within the periplasm for proper functioning. As the driveshaft of the flagellum spans the periplasmic space, its length is dictated by positioning of the outer membrane as induced by its contraction, which is mediated by periplasmic polymers. The periplasm also functions in cell signaling, such as in the case of the lipoprotein RcsF, which has a globular domain residing in the periplasm and acts as a stress sensor. When RcsF fails to interact with BamA, such as in the case of an enlarged periplasm, RcsF is not exported to the cell surface and are able to trigger the Rcs signaling cascade. Periplasm size, therefore, plays an important role in stress signaling.
=== Bromine halides === The halogens form many binary, diamagnetic interhalogen compounds with stoichiometries XY, XY3, XY5, and XY7 (where X is heavier than Y), and bromine is no exception. Bromine forms a monofluoride and monochloride, as well as a trifluoride and pentafluoride. Some cationic and anionic derivatives are also characterised, such as BrF2−, BrCl2−, BrF2+, BrF4+, and BrF6+. Apart from these, some pseudohalides are also known, such as cyanogen bromide (BrCN), bromine thiocyanate (BrSCN), and bromine azide (BrN3). The pale-brown bromine monofluoride (BrF) is unstable at room temperature, disproportionating quickly and irreversibly into bromine, bromine trifluoride, and bromine pentafluoride. It thus cannot be obtained pure. It may be synthesised by the direct reaction of the elements, or by the comproportionation of bromine and bromine trifluoride at high temperatures. Bromine monochloride (BrCl), a red-brown gas, quite readily dissociates reversibly into bromine and chlorine at room temperature and thus also cannot be obtained pure, though it can be made by the reversible direct reaction of its elements in the gas phase or in carbon tetrachloride. Bromine monofluoride in ethanol readily leads to the monobromination of the aromatic compounds PhX (para-bromination occurs for X = Me, But, OMe, Br; meta-bromination occurs for the deactivating X = -CO2Et, –CHO, -NO2); this is due to heterolytic fission of the Br–F bond, leading to rapid electrophilic bromination by Br+. At room temperature, bromine trifluoride (BrF3) is a straw-coloured liquid.

==== Elimination ==== The elimination of etilefrine is dependent on route of administration. Regardless of route, about 80% is excreted in urine within 24 hours. With oral administration, 7% is eliminated unchanged in urine and 73% as conjugates. Conversely, with intravenous administration, 28% is eliminated unchanged in urine and 44% as conjugates.
By inhibiting this pathway, less collagen was produced and deposited in the heart, preventing the formation of cardiac fibrosis. Huang and Chen (2013) claim that oxymatrine may even be involved in inhibiting the expression of TGF-β1 receptors, which would further support that oxymatrine attenuates the signal transduction pathway involved in collagen production. They also reported that inhibition of the TGF-β1 receptor may also prevent ventricular remodeling.
==== As prophylaxis against sexually transmitted infections ==== Doxycycline is used as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent certain sexually transmitted infections, known as doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxyPEP). A landmark randomized trial in San Francisco found that a single 200 mg dose of doxycycline taken within 72 hours after condomless sex reduced the overall incidence of bacterial STIs by approximately two-thirds among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women, with reductions of 87–88% for chlamydia, 73–87% for syphilis, and 55% for gonorrhea. However, a separate trial found doxyPEP was not effective in cisgender women. In June 2024, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued clinical guidelines recommending doxyPEP for MSM and transgender women with at least one bacterial STI in the prior 12 months. The Australasian Society for HIV Medicine issued a more cautious consensus statement recommending doxyPEP only for syphilis prevention in MSM, citing concerns that the risk of increasing antimicrobial resistance, especially in Neisseria gonorrhoeae, outweighed the benefits for other STIs. Use of doxyPEP has been associated with tetracycline resistance in N. gonorrhoeae.
While tyrosine phosphorylation is found in relatively low abundance, it is well studied due to the ease of purification of phosphotyrosine using antibodies. Receptor tyrosine kinases are an important family of cell surface receptors involved in the transduction of extracellular signals such as hormones, growth factors, and cytokines. Binding of a ligand to a monomeric receptor tyrosine kinase stabilizes interactions between two monomers to form a dimer, after which the two bound receptors phosphorylate tyrosine residues in trans. Phosphorylation and activation of the receptor activates a signaling pathway through enzymatic activity and interactions with adaptor proteins. Signaling through the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a receptor tyrosine kinase, is critical for the development of multiple organ systems including the skin, lung, heart, and brain. Excessive signaling through the EGFR pathway is found in many human cancers.
One arm lying west of the body, 23 feet long; one stump of arm about 4 feet long; three arms lying south of body and from appearance attached to same (although I did not dig quite to body, as it laid well down in the sand and I was very tired), longest one measured over 23 feet, the other arms were three to five feet shorter. In the first days of December 1896, Dr. George Grant, owner of a hotel at South Beach on Anastasia Island, wrote a short article describing the carcass, which was published in the Pennsylvania Grit of Williamsport on December 13. The article was accompanied by a picture of the "sea monster" depicting a tentacled creature with a tail. This was drawn by the draughtsman of the newspaper based on Grant's description, and not an eyewitness. Grant's description was as follows:

It corresponds to a fragment of the larger protein prothymosin alpha, which is present in many tissues. The isolated 28-amino-acid peptide was originally obtained from thymus preparations, and the pharmaceutical product is synthesized rather than extracted. The term therefore describes both a natural fragment and a manufactured drug substance.
Thymosin alpha-1 is a single defined 28-residue peptide, while the broader family includes unrelated peptides such as thymosin beta-4. The shared name reflects historical isolation from thymus tissue rather than a common structure. Confusion between the two is common in older literature.
No single pathway fully accounts for its reported effects. Several studies describe interaction with innate immune receptors and downstream cytokine changes, but the complete picture is not settled. Open questions remain about which effects occur at physiological concentrations.
Reverse-phase HPLC with ultraviolet detection at 214 nm is common. Mass spectrometry is used to confirm molecular identity and detect modifications. Immunoassays exist but may not distinguish the intact peptide from fragments.
